Nexleaf Analytics recognises We for Health for successful delivery of the R3 Initiative in Rwanda

Certificate of Good Completion highlights progress in strengthening the country’s vaccine cold chain

Kigali, Rwanda, 30 September 2026: Nexleaf Analytics has awarded We for Health (W4H) a Certificate of Good Completion for its work on the Rapid Response and Repair (R3) Implementation in Rwanda. Signed by Kevin Arts, Vice President of NexleafAnalytics, the certificate confirms that W4H, contracted by Nexleaf Analytics from April 2025 to June 2026, successfully delivered the services assigned to it.

Vaccines must be kept at the right temperature from the national store down to the last health centre. When refrigerators or freezers break down, vaccines risk losing their potency. The R3 Initiative was designed to address this challenge by establishing a sustainable system for maintaining cold chain equipment, combining reliable data with rapid repairs.

The certificate recognises W4H’s contribution in three areas. W4H developed the training materials and organised and facilitated both in-person and digital training for health workers at national, regional, district and facility levels, first during a pilot phase and then during the nationwide scale-up. It supported the Ministry of Health in making data review meetings operational at national and sub-national levels. It also managed the Rapid Response Fund and worked with the Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC) and the Ministry of Health to procure cold chain equipment spare parts from UNICEF.

In the certificate, Nexleaf Analytics states that it is “extremely satisfied with both the quality of the work and the tireless dedication and effort” W4H put into the assignment, and that it has no reservations about recommending W4H for future work.Over the course of the project, 617 health workers were trained across all 30 districts, reaching 237 health centres nationwide.

They included vaccinators, EPI supervisors and 95 biomedical technicians. Rwanda’s first comprehensive national digital registry of vaccine cold chain equipment was created in ColdTrace, with QR code tagging of each unit. In addition, 46 sets of maintenance tools were distributed and repairs were carried out in health facilities including Nzige, Solace, Manyagiro and Mukarange.

The initiative also began shifting practice from reactive repairs towards proactive inspection and servicing.Dr Assumpta Kayinamura Mwali, Executive Director of We for Health, said: “We are proud to receive this certificate from Nexleaf Analytics. Through the R3 Initiative, we did more than repair equipment: we trained health workers and helped build a system that uses data to keep vaccines safe for every child. This recognition belongs to our team and to our partners, with whom we share the goal of a stronger health system for Rwanda.”

The initiative was implemented by W4H in collaboration with Nexleaf Analytics, the Rwanda Biomedical Centre, the Ministry of Health, UNICEF, Vanguard Economics and district health teams, with funding from Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance.

To ensure the results are sustained, W4H and Vanguard Economics convened the R3 Results Dissemination and Sustainability Plan Development Workshop in Kigali on 18 and 19 June 2026. Some 55 national and sub-national stakeholders were introduced to the R3 Playbook, a practical guide covering the cold chain equipment lifecycle from procurement to decommissioning, and worked on a sustainability roadmap built on four pillars: workforce capacity, institutional ownership, sustainable financing for spare parts, and data-driven decision-making through institutionalised monthly data reviews. As Dr Mwali reminded participants, “One pillar cannot hold the house alone. What we celebrate here is the harvest of collective effort.”

The R3 model now offers a replicable approach for strengthening immunisation infrastructure while building local technical capacity, so that Rwanda’s cold chain remains resilient and ready for the future.
